ESPN Deportes starts local soccer program
|
Soccer is the most popular sport among Hispanics and here in the Bakersfield Market, numerous teams participate in league play. There are four amateur leagues and the largest of these, the Valley League, boasts three divisions and 43 teams. To keep listeners up-to-date on the latest local soccer developments, ESPN Deportes has established a new program -- "Futból en Aire 1490" with host Tomás Flores. The program airs Mondays through Fridays, Noon to 1:00 PM.
A new member of the ESPN Deportes team, Tomás is a local businessman with a long-time passion for soccer. He has been instrumental in developing the local leagues and is a veteran soccer tournament organizer. Generally regarded as the expert on local soccer, he provides listeners updates on recent matches played, upcoming matches scheduled and league standings. Local color will come from call-in interviews with coaches and players, in-studio guests and call-in questions from listeners. Thus far, listener response has been very positive.
This new program comes on the heels of the recently held, summer soccer tournament for the Ranch Market Cup, a joint effort by the regionally-based supermarket chain, Ranch Markets and SRG. This inaugural tournament involved a dozen teams of young players in weekly matches. Community response was tremendous.
"Futbòl en Aire 1490" can be sponsored. To be involved, email Local Sales Manager, Carol Ramirez or call Carol at (661) 327-9711. |
